The Step-by-Step Registration Process

Log in to eCitizen (ecitizen.go.ke)
Create an account if you do not have one. Use your National ID number and a valid email address. Verify your email before proceeding.

Navigate to Business Registration Service
From the eCitizen dashboard, select "Business Registration Service" → "Online Business Registration" → choose your registration type.

Name Search and Reservation
Search your proposed company name. It must not be identical or deceptively similar to any registered entity. If available, reserve it. For companies: KES 150 reservation fee, valid for 30 days.

Complete the Application Form
Enter details for all directors (minimum 1 for a Ltd), shareholders, share allocation, registered office address, and nature of business. Attach scanned ID copies and the Memorandum and Articles (for Ltd companies).

Pay the Registration Fee

  • Blurry or incomplete document scans: ID copies that are cut off, unclear, or folded are rejected. Use a scanning app (CamScanner, Adobe Scan) rather than a photo.
  • KRA PIN mismatch: The name on the KRA PIN must exactly match the name on the ID. Any discrepancy causes rejection.
